A new committee of the Dhaka-based Kamalnagar Forum has been formed. Former Jagannath University professor Dr. Maksudur Rahman has been elected president, and former student leader Advocate Faisal Amin has been elected general secretary.

On Friday (August 9) evening, the announcement of the new committee was made during a lively get-together at a restaurant in Paltan, Dhaka. Advisors and senior members of the organization were present at the event and endorsed the new leadership. The announcement was made by the forum’s former general secretary, Mahmudur Rahman Murad. Soon, after discussions with advisors, a full committee will be announced, along with committees at the union level.

Speakers at the event noted that Kamalnagar Upazila has long suffered from river erosion, poor communication infrastructure, unemployment, and a lack of educational institutions. They stressed that, alongside government and non-government initiatives, the united efforts of expatriates and Kamalnagar residents living in Dhaka are essential to solving these problems.

Speaking as the chief guest, Air Hafizullah, Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Lakshmipur district unit and Jamaat’s candidate for the Lakshmipur-4 parliamentary seat, said: “We can prepare plans with a focus on preventing river erosion, modernizing agriculture, and improving educational infrastructure. To achieve this, it is crucial for educated, influential, and professional residents of Kamalnagar living in Dhaka to work together. Only by joining hands can we bring development to this underprivileged area.”

The newly elected president, Professor Dr. Maksudur Rahman, said: “I see this responsibility not just as a position, but as a commitment to the people. We will work for the social development of Kamalnagar, the expansion of education, skill-building for youth, and the preservation of local culture. Our first goal is to build a bridge of mutual cooperation and communication among all Kamalnagar residents living in Dhaka.”

The newly elected general secretary, Advocate Faisal Amin, said: “We will bring together all Kamalnagar residents in Dhaka under one umbrella to create a strong network that can bring positive change not only in Dhaka but also at the village level in Kamalnagar. We will work jointly on social initiatives, scholarships, medical assistance, and emergency disaster response.”

Among others, former Lakshmipur district Jamaat-e-Islami secretary Maulana Nurun Nabi and former Kamalnagar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Dr. Nuruddin Mahmud spoke at the event.

The program concluded with discussions on Kamalnagar’s history, culture, and development plans. Members of the organization greeted the newly elected leaders with flowers and pledged their full support.
