Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said her party will sweep the general election urging the countrymen to vote for “Boat,” the election symbol of the ruling party.
“We will win the election, no doubt about it,” she told reporters after casting her ballot at the Dhaka City College centre in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election this morning.
She also urged all to go to the polling centres and exercise the franchise as the election environment is fair.
When asked about the 48-hour hartal being enforced by the BNP and like-minded opposition parties boycotting the election, the Awami League chief said their strike has lost momentum.
Sheikh Hasina cast her vote at 8:04am at the polling station. She arrived at the centre with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, daughter Saima Wazed, and Sheikh Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddiq at 7:55am.
Dhallywood actor Ferdous Ahmed, who is contesting the polls on the Awami League ticket from the Dhaka-10 constituency, welcomed the prime minister at the centre.
The voting will continue till 4pm without any break.
