Taking a hard line to enforce party discipline and ensure public safety after the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, the newly elected lawmaker for Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati–Kamalnagar), , along with local (BNP) leaders, has moved against members of his own party.
Two separate cases have been filed against 26 BNP leaders and activists in on allegations of violence, extortion and armed processions carried out in defiance of party directives. The cases were lodged at Ramgati Police Station on Saturday night (February 14). Police have already arrested two of the accused.
ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan, also BNP’s Assistant Secretary for Industry and Commerce, said the party maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities. “BNP is a disciplined political party. Our leader has issued clear instructions that no leader or activist may engage in criminal acts,” he said.
“Those who try to exploit the election victory to engage in extortion, violence or harassment of ordinary people have no place in the party. Whoever the offender may be, the law will take its own course. I personally instructed that cases be filed on behalf of the victims,” he added.
He further warned that anyone from BNP or its affiliated organisations found disrupting law and order in Ramgati or would face strict action, including expulsion from the party.
Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Liton Dewan said police arrested two accused Miraj and Riaz during raids following the filing of the cases. “They are being produced before court. Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused,” he said.
